Scenarios & Menu

November 24, 2017

The Unity prototype has progressed significantly. The user is now greeted by a menu with the title of the project, a small explanation of what will occur and a button prompting the user to begin the testing.

Once the program is launched the user will be shown the boid versions in a few different scenarios. Currently, only the normal version of boids is operational but as development continues it will show a scenario using both versions before going ahead to the next one.

Currently the following scenarios have been implemented:

- Simply moving around with no flocking.

- Flocking but with the flocking range limited in a small area.

- Flocking but with the flocking range limited in a medium area.

- Flocking but with the flocking range limited in a large area.

- Flocking but with the flocking range limited in a medium area and following the centre.

- Flocking but with the flocking range limited in a medium area and following a moving target.

Its my hope that with the variety of scenarios differences between the two versions will be more evident.

A user will get a certain amount of time (typically 10-15 seconds except some scenarios such as the moving target needing 20-25) to observe a scenario. Once the time is up (indicated by the timer on the lower right corner) the simulation will reset and a new scenario will be displayed. Once the last scenario is displayed the user is then taken to the end scene Currently it is blank but with further development it will come to contain instructions on how to complete the survey and either contain the survey itself or launch the survey on a web browser.
