This week my task was twofold; first I tried to get through as many articles and research papers related to AI in games. There was a lot of interesting content, ranging from the lighter almost philosophical side of "Electric Dreams" a 5 part essay written by Michael Cook (found here: https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/02/13/electric-dreams-part-1-the-lost-future-of-ai/) discussing the past, present and possible future of AI in games to practical minded prototypes (an example can be seen here: http://nn.cs.utexas.edu/downloads/papers/gold.cig05.pdf) where rudimentary pathfinding was created using self learning neural networks.
Unfortunately, I was not prepared for the breath of the content. While I have found numerous interesting technologies I have been unable to narrow down my scope and be more specific with my dissertation. It is my hope I will be able to do so with further research and discussions with my supervisor - when I have one assigned to me.
Second, I have created the first draft slides for my honours proposal which included a title, aim and objectives of the project. I have attached the slides below.
First steps, check.
